What is Podcasting?

Podcasting involves the creation of an audio file that can downloaded and played on a computer, burnt to CD or copied to an MP3 player/ iPod. Initially the term "podcast" came from the popular iPod music player; however the technology is not limited to using an iPod.

An audio file of content that is updated frequently, for example a weekly bulletin or program, can be made so that it is available for automatic download allowing users to listen to the file at their convenience.

The scope is fantastic; teachers and students can upload regular news and other items through the e4education Content Management System and make them available as podcasts. Visitors can then listen live on the website or download them onto their MP3 player.

Think about the possibilities; you could record your regular newsletter, upload your school radio programmes or create a one off podcast of a school performance or choir singing - all of which can be listened to on the website.
